Tasting & glassware
Tools should make a drink easier to understand—not easier to overpour.
Glassware affects aroma, temperature, carbonation, and dilution. It does not make alcohol safer or change how much ethanol is in a serve.
A simple tasting sequence
- 01 · Look. Notice color and clarity without assigning quality.
- 02 · Smell. Keep your nose a little distance from high-proof spirits and inhale gently.
- 03 · Sip. Take a small taste, let it rest, then notice sweetness, acidity, bitterness, texture, and finish.
- 04 · Pause. Water and time make comparison clearer; you never need to finish a sample.
Useful vessels
Tulip glass: concentrates aroma for spirits, beer, and sparkling wine.
Wine glass: offers room to swirl and smell still wine.
Highball: keeps a long mixed drink cold and accommodates ice.
Rocks glass: suits a measured short serve over ice.
